Providing Distributed On - Demand Video
نویسندگان
چکیده
| In an on-demand video system, a number of repository servers store all the video contents of interest to a large pool of geographically distributed users. In order to achieve higher streaming capacity and lower long-haul transmission cost, a distributed servers architecture can be used, in which multiple local servers are placed close to the users and cache the video contents dynamically according to their local demands. We consider in this paper that the repository delivers video contents to the local servers using multicasting. Upon the arrival of a request the local server joins the ongoing multicast streams of the movie and caches the data (i.e., \latches" onto the streams), while a transient network stream is allocated to supply the missing (beginning) portion of the movie due to the time-lag between the request and the multicast streams. After a short while, all the streams will \merge" into one stream. Such scheme is hence called \latching and merging." We study the required number of streams and local buuer for this scheme, the effect of the maximum number of streams that a local server can latch onto, and its advantages in providing distributed on-demand video services.

Providing Reliability on Demand in Distributed VoD Servers
Video on Demand (VoD) services are characterized by quality of service requirements which depend on: the quality of video and sound transmitted to the client, the respect of time constraints associated to video and audio data and the reliability and accessibility of the service. Much work has been done in order to provide system support aimed at meeting reliability requirements in distributed V...

The current generation of mobile clients have incessant demand for services. Providing Video-on-Demand (VoD) services to these clients require a new paradigm. This paper presents an architecture for Mobile Video-on-Demand. Several schemes that reduces the load on the video server, thereby increasing the number of requests that need to be served is proposed. The Distributed Indexing reduces the ...

The popularity of video-on-demand (VoD) streaming has grown dramatically over the World Wide Web. Most users in VoD P2P networks have to wait a long time in order to access their requesting videos. Therefore, reducing waiting time to access videos is the main challenge for VoD P2P networks. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for caching video based on peers' priority and video's popula...
